01.
How do your
fees work?
Allen’s fee structure is case specific. Larger cases can be based on hourly rates billed from an amount in retainer. Most clients prefer a fixed fee for services (such as a pre-determined amount for trial, sentencing etc.). Allen doesn’t charge for phone calls or emails when fixed fee arrangements are made, and clients also enjoy the predictability of expenses fixed fees provide. Allen will work with each client to agree on a fee structure that works, including payment plans where necessary. Most cases are done through an initial fee for providing detailed advice on your legal position and options, and a subsequent fee based on the option you choose to proceed with.

02.
How can a criminal defense
lawyer assist me?
A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation, advises you on your rights, builds a defense strategy, negotiates with prosecutors, and advocates on your behalf in court to achieve the best possible outcome for your case. A lawyer can also appear in court on your behalf, relieving you from the obligation of attending most court appearances.

What are the potential consequences
of a criminal conviction?
Consequences can include fines, imprisonment, a permanent criminal record, loss of employment opportunities, and more. The severity depends on the nature of the offense and other factors.

Can I have a criminal record
expunged or sealed?
In certain circumstances, it’s possible to have a criminal record expunged or sealed, meaning it won’t be accessible to the public. Eligibility varies based on the offense and jurisdiction.

What is the difference between

These are actually US terms. In Canada the offences are divided into summary offences and indictable offences. Misdemeanors are comparable to summary offences, which carry lighter penalties, while felonies correspond to indictable offences, which involve more severe consequences.
